The defence counsel skipped today’s hearing

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - An Islamabad district and sessions court will record the statement of Shahnawaz Amir, the principle accused in the murder case of Canadian national Sara Inam, on October 18 as the defence counsel skipped today’s hearing.

Shahnawaz Amir, son of renowned journalist Ayaz Amir, had allegedly slain his wife Sara in the federal capital a year ago.  Police took the suspect into custody on September 23 last year. On December 5, both Shahnawaz and his mother were indicted in the case.

Sessions judge Azam Judge Khan presided over the hearing. Prosecutor Rana Hasan Abbas was present. However, the defence counsel in the case, Basharatullah, did not appear before the court.

At the outset of the hearing, assistant lawyer who represented lawyer Basharatullah, informed the court that the counsel had prior engagements at the Supreme Court, urging the court to adjourn the hearing.

The assistant lawyer assured the court that the statement of accused Shahnawaz under section 342 would be submitted in the next hearing.

To which, the judge issued directives that Basharatullah appear before the court at the next hearing, fixing it for October 18 when Shahnawaz’s statement would now be recorded.
