19 KP caretaker ministers tender resignations on ECP’s directions
PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's interim Information Minister Feroze Jamal announced on Thursday that 19 members of the interim cabinet in the province, including himself, had tendered their resignations to the interim Chief Minister Azam Khan.
This step was taken in accordance with the directives of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
In response to a letter written by Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, the PTI KP chief, and signed by 52 ex-Members of Provincial Assembly (MPAs), the ECP had instructed the caretaker chief minister last month to promptly remove ministers, advisers, and special assistants involved in political activities.
The objective was to ensure a fair and unbiased electoral process in the province ahead of the upcoming general elections.
Jamal conveyed that the chief minister informed them about the ECP's mandate to form a new interim cabinet devoid of political affiliations. Consequently, he and 18 other members submitted their resignations. Others who were not present in Peshawar would also resign upon their return, and if they couldn't, they would be officially removed the following day.
Regarding the timing of the acceptance of these resignations, Jamal expressed that it was premature to predict.
Since January, a caretaker government has been in power in KP after the PTI chairman had pledged to dissociate from the prevailing corrupt political system by resigning from assemblies where his party held influence.
The ECP expressed regret that certain members of the interim cabinet were appointed based on their political affiliations, which compromised their impartiality.
