Cases lodged under Terrorism Act at three police stations

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Sindh Police on Tuesday found out in their investigation that PTI Karachi president Ali Haider Zaidi was also wanted in three cases other than the “fraud” case he had recently been indicted for.

Reports said that cases under the Terrorism Act had been lodged against Mr Zaidi at Site A, Soldier Market, and Ferozebad police stations.

Mr Zaidi said in his recorded statement that he had flown to the US after completing his graduation and had been a visitor to the US for 18 years. “I have also done business in Dubai for 10 years,” he added.

After coming back to the country, he said, he joined the PTI and contested elections from different constituencies adding that he had been elected from NA-244 and was appointed federal minister for ports and shipping later. “I have been indicted on political grounds, been granted bail, and have been appearing before courts on due dates,” he added.

He went on to state that he had not committed any wrong adding that fake cases were being lodged against him. “The case lodged at the Ibrahim Haideri police station is baseless,” he added.

Earlier, the court announced the verdict it had reserved on the PTI leader's plea for acquittal and physical remand and handed Mr Zaidi to the police on a three-day physical remand in the fraud case.

According to the first information report (FIR), the case was registered under Sections 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of a common intention), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 471 (using as genuine a forged document), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
