Four more people have died of dengue in Lahore, taking death toll to 40.
19-year-old Usman of Baghbanpura was under treatment at Mayo Hospital. His platelets count dropped sharply, resulting in his death on Sunday. Similarly, a woman, Khalida of Daroghawala, died after her platelets count decreased due to dengue virus. The third patient, Bashir, 50, also died at Mayo Hospital. The fourth victim is 37-year-old Abida Asif of walton Road.On Saturday, six people had lost lives to dengue in Lahore. Over 400 new cases of dengue have been reported in Lahore in the last 36 hours, taking the total number of patients to 5715 in the city.Hospitals in the province are crowded with dengue patients who complain that despite government orders there are not enough resources to treat them.As many as 280 dengue cases have been reported from Faisalabad.In a step to deal with the growing number of dengue patients in the province, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has fixed the blood test price at Rs 90 in private laboratories. These laboratories have been warned of strict action if they charged more.Sri Lankan medical experts fear that dengue virus is not going to end in Pakistan over the next 10 years. Sri Lankan team leader Dr Tesesra says that Pakistan could require a decade to contain the deadly virus. The visiting Sri Lankan team also inspected various state-run hospitals and saw dengue virus patients there.A report meanwhile said that a girl has died of dengue in District Hospital Jhelum. No dengue case has so far been reported from Peshawar.
