Former SCBA President Latif Afridi shot dead
PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Former Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Latif Afridi was shot dead by a man on the Peshawar High Court premises on Monday.
Sources said the suspect opened fire at Mr Afridi when he was sitting with other lawyers in the bar room of the court. He was injured and taken to the Lady Reading Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police arrested the suspect and launched a probe into the incident. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect fired nine bullets, six of which hit the advocate.
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah condemned the killing of former SCBA president who succumbed to his injuries ealier. He said lawlessness had become the order of the day in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while mentioning the situation turned worse after the provincial government’s callous approach in dealing with the law and order situation.
He added two lawyers were targeted on the same day in Peshawar and Rawalpindi in which PTI was ruling. “Abdul Latif Afridi was the representative of constitution, democracy and the downtrodden,” Mr Sanaullah added.
The KP bar while condemning the attack had called for three days mourning, besides announcing strike on Tuesday (tomorrow). The bar council had also demanded the high-level investigation over the failure of security. Also, the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) had called for the strike tomorrow. LHCBA president Sardar Akbar Ali Dogar said, even inside the courts and bar rooms lawyers were becoming vicitims of the deadly attack.
