IHC serves notices on naval chief, another officer over ‘unfair’ dismissal of cadets

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Islamabad High Court has issued notices to Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi and head of the Pakistan Naval Academy in a case filed by two cadets over what they claimed their unfair removal from service.

IHC s Justice Babar Sattar served the notices after admitting two identical petitions for hearing. The petitioners – cadets Hamza Ali and Muzammil Farooq – complained that they were denied the right of free trial in their dismissal.

Their counsel informed the high court that his clients were initially enrolled as cadets in the Pakistan Naval Academy and dismissed by the administration without due process. He argued that the naval authorities were under obligation to provide a chance to the cadets to defend the allegations before their removal.

The petitions said the cadets were dismissed from the service after they refused to quit voluntarily over an heated exchange with a senior official. The court has asked the naval chief and the academy commandant to submit their replies in a fortnight and adjourned the case till Feb 16.
