Rs19bn of BISP illegally distributed among govt officers

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Audit officials of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Thursday revealed that Rs19 billion of the landmark Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) have been distributed among government employees in the past.

Audit officials in Parliament s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) said that funds were distributed illegally to 143,000 people and 25,00 officers of grade 17 and above were collecting funds for many years.

The PAC directed the recovery and inquiry of these amounts from the government employees.

The Public Accounts Committee under the chairmanship of Federal Minister Noor Alam Khan, during the review of the Audit Report of Poverty Alleviation and Social Security Division 20-2019, found financial irregularities of Rs57 billion in Poverty Alleviation and Benazir Income Support Program (BISP).

The committee expressed concern over transfer of BISP funds directly to Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners. PAC Member Nuzhat Pathan said that flood affected people in Sindh have not received funds.

In the meeting, it was revealed that BISP had distributed Rs19 billion to government employees in the past. Audit officials said that funds were illegally distributed among 143,000 people, while 2500 officers of grade 17 and above also collected funds.
