'No objection' if Elahi goes for dissolution after vote of confidence: Rana Sanaullah
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said on Frdiay the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) had no objection if Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Pervez Elahi opted for dissolution of Punjab Assembly after he had obtained the vote of confidence.
He said the court had given CM interim relief adding he had to obtain the vote of confidence as per court’s orders. “The court will give its final verdict on Jan 11 after hearing both parties”, he added.
Speaking about asking chief secretary to sign the notification, he said the CS would have rescinded his position if he was not willing to sign the notification. “The rumors regarding locking CS in the room are untrue as the CS himself had asked to seek legal opinion before proceeding”, he added.
Lauding Islamabad police, he said the police fulfilled their duty well otherwise the city might have witnessed huge terrorism.
Earlier, a larger bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday suspended Governor Balighur Rehman s notification of denotifying Chaudhry Parvez Elahi as Punjab chief minister.
Ali Zafar, CM Elahi s counsel, submitted the unertaking duly signed by Mr Elahi stating he would not dissolve Punjab assembly until he obtained a vote of confidence from the house.
The court was haring a plea filed by CM Elahi against his denotification as the CM by Punjab governor.
Mr Elahi, in his petition, argued that the governor had not written any letter to the chief minister, asking him to obtain a vote of confidence from the provincial assembly. It added that the governor was not authorised to summon a session when a current session was under way. A no-confidence motion was already submitted against the chief minister in the Punjab Assembly, it said, adding that Governor Rehman had neglected the Constitution and just followed advice of his lawyers.
The governor had no authority to denotify the chief minister through an unconstitutional order, Mr Elahi argued while pleading the high court to declare the order null and void.
