ECP not to postpone local election in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Election of Pakistan (ECP) said on Tuesday that the local body elections in Islamabad will take place on time.
In this regard, the ECP issued an order that read, "Despite the federal government’s notification, the LB polls will be held on December 31. The notification issued by the federal government was a violation of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Local Government Act 2015”.
The ECP CEC, Shah Mohammad Jatoi, Nisar Durrani, and Justice Ikramullah all signed the notification. The federal capital city’s LB elections, which are due to take place on December 31 as per the ECP, have all the necessary preparations finished, including the filing of nomination papers and the allocation of election symbols to the candidates. "The publishing of the ballot papers and training of the polling staff have also been done," the ECP added..
“The federal government expanded the number of union councils from 101 to 125 without seeking the ECP’s opinion”, according to the ECP’s notification.
