Country continues to slip deeper into quagmire: Imran Khan
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan on Tuesday said that the country continues to slip deeper into the quagmire.
Addressing a digital session on the country’s economy, the former prime minister said that unfortunately thieves have been spared from going to jail. Stating that the country is drowning in inflation, the PTI chairman reiterated that the government should be elected through transparent elections.
PTI chairman said, “Today we have held our first economic team meeting.” He claimed that whichever government comes will have to face more challenges as compared to 2018.
Imran Khan expressed concern over the economy and said that the economic situation is deteriorating day by day, while the people are very angry due to the electricity bills. The former prime minister claimed that his government’s plan was to bring prosperity to the country. Stating that the country is going into a quagmire, Imran said that if his government comes, it will have to take big steps now.
Stressing that a stable government is needed to take major decisions, the PTI Chairman said that if there is no political stability in the country, there can be no economic stability. While lashing out at PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, Imran said, “A fugitive and convicted who has fled abroad and robbed billions of rupees of the country.”
"During our time, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) used to ask us to raise prices, but we stood by our people. We grew by 6 per cent, we started the Ehsaas programme, when we were in the IMF programme”, said the former prime minister. Blaming the current government, Imran said that the rate of everything has increased in four months.
The former prime minister said that the powerful do every wrong thing in Pakistan but are not caught, adding that corruption ends when the thieves are punished in the society.
Hitting out at Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Imran said that it is a shame that he [Shehbaz] is assuring the Secretary-General that he will use the money properly. The PTI chairman said that the whole world should have helped us when there was a disaster in Pakistan, but the world leaders know that they [leaders of coalition government] are keeping their money abroad.
Taking a jibe at Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Imran questioned what was Bilawal doing in New York during this disastrous situation in the country as he should have been with the flood-stricken people in this difficult time.
