Safe disposal of rusted grenades recommended after police HQ blast

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) - The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) on Thursday recommended the safe disposal of rusted hazardous grenades and mortar shells pertaining to the hand grenade explosion at the police headquarters in Garden area of Karachi.

The BDS officials prepared another important report after the tragic incident. The report declared the hand grenades and mortar shells in the warehouse of the Garden Police Headquarters as dangerous and further referred it to Pakistan Army for safe disposal.

There are 68 rusty dangerous grenades and 266 mortar shells in the warehouse, added the report.

It is pertinent to mention here that two police officials were killed and two others injured in a hand grenade explosion at Garden Police Headquarters in Karachi on Wednesday.

According to the police, the explosion took place in the armory of the Headquarters Garden. The martyred officials were identified as 45-year-old constable Sabir and 40-year-old Shahzad, while the injured officials include 40-year-old Ali Gohar and 55-year-old Saeed.

Police officials said that the grenade exploded during cleaning in the warehouse of the Garden Police Headquarters and the incident is not terrorism but an accident.
