PM expresses anger over disappointing results in recently held cantonment board elections

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has sought a report over defeat in cantonment board elections of Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Rawalpindi and Multan.

According to the reports, the premier held an emergency meeting on the results of the recent cantonment board elections. The meeting discussed the results of recent elections held in Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Rawalpindi and Multan and exchanged views on the other matters relating to the polls.

PM Khan expressed anger over defeat in megacities such as Rawalpindi, Multan and Peshawar. He also ordered the senior party leaders to finalise a detailed report to highlight causes of defeat in major cities during the elections.

It was also reported that the party leaders will compile a report to highlight the cause reasons behind the defeat. The report may include the selections of candidates and behaviour of the party leadership towards the voters.

Earlier on Monday, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief organizer Saifullah Niazi called on Prime Minister Imran Khan , Dunya News reported.

According to sources, Prime Minister Imran Khan has sought an analytical report on the defeat in the elections in three cantonment boards of Punjab from them during the meeting.

Sources said that the Prime Minister has sought an immediate report on the PTI defeat in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Multan in the recently concluded cantonment boards elections.

PM Imran also said that the reasons for the defeat and those responsible for the results should be identified. Prime Minister also sought report on distribution of tickets, election campaign and other factors behind the defeat.

On the other hand, the Prime Minister also expressed satisfaction over the success of Gujranwala Cantt Board election.

According to unofficial results, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf emerged as winner at 60 seats while Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) secured 59 seats. Independents remained third with 55 seats.

Pakistan People’s Party could secure 17 seats. Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) got 10 seats and Jamaat-e-Islami grabbed seven seats. Awami National Party (ANP) and Balochistan Awami Party got two seats each.
