PTI announces to consult with PML-Q on new LG system in Punjab
A meeting of the committee set up by the premier was summoned on Saturday
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced to consult with coalition party Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) about the new local government (LG) system in Punjab.
According to the details garnered, a meeting of the committee set up by the premier was summoned on Saturday. The prime minister directed the chief minister and the minister for local government to finalize the new local body system as soon as possible.
A session was held under the chair of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan and was attended by Chief Minister (CM) Usman Bazdar, Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar and other important ministers. The consultations were held regarding local body elections in Punjab.
PM Imran Khan directed to hold early local body elections in Punjab and instructed CM Usman Bazdar and Local Government Minister Mian Mahmoodur Rashid to finalize all the matters.
Imran Khan also said that legislation and other issues regarding local body elections should be finalized immediately. He also directed to remove the reservations expressed by PML-Q about the new local body system.
An upcoming meeting of the committee set up by the premier, which to be held on Saturday through video link, will discuss the finalization of the new local government system. The committee set up by the prime minister includes the federal ministers Asad Umar, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Pervez Khattak and Mahmoodur Rashid. Federal Ministers Tariq Bashir Cheema and Monis Elahi will represent the PML-Q during the meeting.
It was also reported that the PML-Q wants to restore district nazim setup in new local body system; however, the PTI desires system of tehsil mayor instead of district nazim.
It added that the PTI leadership will convince the PML-Q leadership about the new local government system. After reaching a consensus, the Local Government Bill will be passed by the Punjab Assembly.
