Mutual trade ties need of era to raise nations' standard of life: PM

TASHKENT (Dunya News) – Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Thursday has said that mutual trade ties are need of time to raise the standard of life of the people.

Addressing Pakistan-Uzbekistan Business Forum in Tashkent on Thursday, he was confident that this bilateral relationship will further grow.

He expressed satisfaction over the contracts signed by Pakistani business houses with their Uzbek counterparts. He hoped his visit will further deepen these business connections.

Alluding to the historic, cultural and spiritual connections between the two countries, the Prime Minister stressed that Trans-Afghan railway project is of paramount importance for Pakistan and Uzbekistan to improve their trade relationship. He noted this connectivity project will connect Uzbekistan with Pakistan s seaports and open new markets for it.

He said Pakistan is keen to see peace and political settlement in Afghanistan to reap the benefits of connectivity. He also called for more frequent flights between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.

 

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Imran Khan reached Tashkent on a two-day official visit to Uzbekistan.

He was accompanied by Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Haider Zaidi, National Security Advisor Moeed Yusuf and Atif Khan.

Talks between the leadership of the two countries will cover the entire gamut of bilateral relations, with a particular focus on trade, economic cooperation, and connectivity.

The leaders will also exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The Prime Minister’s visit carries special significance particularly in respect of bilateral and regional trade, regional connectivity and defence cooperation.

During the visit, a number of agreements and MoUs will be signed in areas of mutual interest, including transportation of goods, cooperation between chambers of commerce of the two countries, trade, education, culture and tourism.

On the invitation of the Uzbek President, the Prime Minister will participate in the International Conference on Central and South Asia Regional Connectivity: Challenges and Opportunities.
