PIA performance remains good despite coronavirus pandemic: Economic Survey
According to Economic Survey, PIA's total revenue in the year 2020-21 stood at Rs 97.8 billion.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – According to Economic Survey 2020-21 presented on Thursday, reforms in Pakistan International Airlines continued whereas the performance of the national carrier remained good despite coronavirus pandemic.
The Economic Survey report said that coronavirus affected PIA s air operations like all other airlines. Large-scale flight operation of PIA remained suspended since the inception of COVID-19, yet PIA s total revenue in the year 2020-21 stood at Rs 97.8 billion while its operating deficit fell from Rs 7 billion to only Rs 68 crore.
Special flights were also operated for Pakistanis stranded abroad during the Corona epidemic, the report said. The report said that in order to increase the revenue, charges were received on various facilities including additional baggage and seating.
The report said that as compared to 2019, the number of PIA planes decreased in 2020 but the routes increased while the seat factor decreased from 81 percent to 74 percent this year as compared to last year. PIA also saved Rs 77 crore through voluntary scheme and through disciplinary action.
