No US bases in Pakistan under Imran Khan: FM Qureshi

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has rejected the notion that Pakistan will allow the United States to set up a base inside the country and asserted that under Imran Khan, Pakistan is in safe hands.

Speaking in Tuesday’s Senate session, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said in no uncertain terms that the news was completely baseless. “I call upon the nation to bear witness that under Imran Khan, there will be no American base on Pakistani soil. This is a clear policy of our government, Pakistan is in safe hands”, he said.

"Peace in Afghanistan will enable the entire region to reap the benefits of CPEC and Gwadar will become a trading hub. This is my dream. May Allah grant us success," said Qureshi, adding that Pakistan used to be called part of the problem but today it has become part of the solution.

Talking about the situation in Gaza, he said that our goal was to have a ceasefire, in which we succeeded. However, peace in the Middle East cannot be achieved until a lasting solution to the Palestinian issue is found. I have called on the UN Secretary General to start the peace process.

He said the issue of Palestine has been ongoing for a long time but this time Muslim worshippers in Al-Aqsa Mosque were attacked on the 27th of Ramadan, before which there was an attempt to evict residents of Sheikh Al-Jarrah.

"We have adopted a joint strategy on the situation in Gaza," he said. All the political parties of Pakistan showed great understanding and openness in this regard and passed the resolution unanimously.

“I presented the resolution of the House to the President and Secretary-General of the United Nations, which solidified our stance in the UN”, he added.
