Out of 733 detained workers of the party, 699 have already been released: Interior Minister

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Wednesday said that matters with proscribed Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) have been settled and out of 733 detained workers of the party, 699 have already been released from custody.

Addressing a press conference, the Interior Minister clarified that 210 first information reports (FIRs) registered against the religious party members including Saad Rizvi will go through the legal process.

He added that the protestors burnt 30 cars and returned five of the cars back. On the abducted policemen, the minister said that the 12 kidnapped personnel were returned on the night of April 19.

Sheikh Rashid further said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed to tighten the noose around people who misuse religious sentiment and revealed that government is working on legislation to stop disrespect of religious sects.

The minister also informed that a meeting was held at Interior Ministry regarding social media and fake news and a complete study is underway on the issue. Foreign elements used the social media to spread misinformation as over 200,000 people from India were online on the social networks, he added.

Talking about former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, the Interior Minister said that he met British envoy and asked him to deport the PML-N supremo.
