UK variant behind recent coronavirus surge in region: Asad Umar
The Minister for Planning once again urged the people to fully comply with the health guidelines.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Federal Minister of Planning and Development Asad Umar on Tuesday said that UK coronavirus variant is behind recent surge in coronavirus cases in the entire region and stressed that strict implementation of SOPs can curb the spread of the virus.
Talking to media person in federal capital, the minister said that if Pakistan receives vaccines as per the commitments, the inoculation drive will be opened for all the Pakistanis after Eid-ul-Fitr.
He revealed that over 1.3 million people have so far been vaccinated against COVID-19 across the country and sixty to seventy thousand vaccines are currently being administered on daily basis. It is our effort to enhance it to one hundred and fifty thousand to two hundred thousand after Eid-ul-Fitr, he added.
The Minister said that nine hundred thousand vaccines were available in the country last night.

On the other hand, Pakistan has reported highest daily deaths from coronavirus since July 2020 as the number of positive cases has surged to 729,920. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 15,619 on Tuesday.
According to the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) 4,318 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.
Punjab remains the worst-hit province in terms of deaths followed by Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Till now 7,062 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab 4,530 in Sindh, 2,683 in KP, 617 in Islamabad, 407 in Azad Kashmir, 217 in Balochistan, and 103 in GB.
Furthermore 269,474 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 252,974 in Punjab, 100,275 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 66,983 in Islamabad, 20,397 in Balochistan, 14,687 in Azad Kashmir and 5,130 in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Pakistan has so far conducted 10,829,994 coronavirus tests and 50,520 in the last 24 hours. 638,267 coronavirus patients have recovered in the country whereas 4,198 patients are in critical condition.
