Coronavirus surge: Punjab govt decides to close markets in various districts after 6 pm

LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Punjab government has decided to reimpose restrictions in different districts of the province in view of the deteriorating situation of coronavirus in the country.

This was announced by Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar through a tweet on Friday. The Chief Minister said that coronavirus, especially the British variant, was spreading in various cities of Punjab to a concerning extent.

"According to the advice of health experts, starting from Saturday night, we have decided to implement strict coronavirus SOPs in districts with over 5% positivity rate for the next 15 days," he said.

Sardar Usman Buzdar said that all educational institutions, parks, indoor wedding halls, mausoleums, carnivals and sports activities in these districts would be banned for 15 days.

In addition, markets will be closed at 6 pm and orders have been issued for strict implementation of smart lockdown SOPs. The health department will issue a detailed notification in this regard.

Usman Buzdar said that these steps are being taken to prevent the dangerous spread of the virus and to save the precious lives of citizens.

The Chief Minister also wrote that he has directed to further expedite the process of vaccination of citizens above the age of 60 years so that they develop immunity against the virus.
