ECP takes decision on voting in Senate polls as per Constitution: Marriyum
Those involved in sugar, wheat and electricity theft should take some rest now: Marriyum
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan Muslim league-Nawaz (PML-N) spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb on Tuesday said that Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken the decision regarding Senate polls in the light of Supreme Court’s (SC) opinion as per the Constitution.
While reacting to the ECP’s decision of holding the elections in the upper house of the Parliament as per past practice, the PML-N leader said that the fake leaders should now start preparations to go back to their homes.
Those involved in sugar, wheat and electricity theft should take some rest now, she added.
The reaction came after ECP had decided to conduct the Senate elections scheduled on March 3, 2021, through secret ballot due to time constrain.
While announcing its decision after considering various proposals, the commission had clarified that the polls will be held ‘as provided in the Constitution and Law as per past practice’.
Earlier, SC, in its opinion on the presidential reference on open vote, had said that Senate elections will be held through secret ballot under the article 226 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
The apex court had also directed ECP to use latest technologies to stop corrupt practices, adding that he secrecy of the ballot papers was "not absolute".
