The country's politics will take a new turn after tomorrow's elections: Shahid Khaqan
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Tuesday has expressed hope for the victory of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) member and joint candidate of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Yousaf Raza Gillani in the Senate elections.
Talking to media in Islamabad, the PML-N leader said that the opposition parties have welcomed Supreme Court’s (SC) opinion on presidential reference. A strong role of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has emerged after the opinion of the apex court, he added.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that the Senate polls will be conducted in a traditional way as the electoral process can only be changed after consultation with the members of the Parliament.
The PML-N leader further said that the country’s politics will take a new turn after tomorrow’s elections. We cannot expect justice from such a government that is involved in vote theft, he stated.
It is to be mentioned here that a total of 170 candidates had filed their nomination papers in the ECP for the polls on 48 seats in the upper house of the Parliament. 29 candidates from Punjab, 39 from Sindh, 51 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), 41 from Balochistan and 10 from the federal capital Islamabad had submitted their details.
Polling for Senate elections will be held on March 3 at the Parliament house in Islamabad and the four provincial assemblies.
