PPP aiming to make Yousaf Raza Gillani next Chairman Senate: Sources
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Former President Asif Ali Zardari has initiated contacts to get former PM Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani jointly nominated as the next Chairman Senate.
According to sources, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) will demand a chairman of the Senate, under the PDM formula, immediately after the Senate election. According to the PDM formula, other parties will support whichever party has the majority.
Sources said that the PPP has completed its homework for the Senate election and is likely to emerge as the second largest party in the upper house.
It is being speculated that Yousaf Raza Gilani will be the joint PDM candidate from the Islamabad seat, and that PPP and PML-N have come to an agreement in this regard.
Sources said that in return, PPP would support PML-N candidates in Punjab. Former President Asif Ali Zardari is said to have played an active role in completing the Senate number game.
