Federal Cabinet constitutes inquiry committee to investigate Broadsheet scandal
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Tuesday’s Federal Cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan, decided that a new committee will be formed to investigate the Broadsheet issue. The committee will be headed by a retired judge of the Supreme Court or High Court.
During the Federal Cabinet meeting, members were also briefed on the steps taken for civil service reforms during the last six months as well as the amendments in PPRA Rules.
During the meeting, Federal Minister for Planning Asad Omar briefed on the effects of the pandemic, saying that the income of 20 million people was restored due to effective decision making in construction and manufacturing sectors.
Federal Minister for Finance Abdul Hafeez Sheikh presented a comparative analysis of the negative effects of the pandemic between the economy of Pakistan and other countries.
During the meeting, the Cabinet Committee for procurement of coronavirus vaccines also briefed the Prime Minister.
It informed that emergency use of two vaccines had been approved in the last few days and steps for approval of more vaccines are being fast-tracked. Steps were also being taken to procure the two approved vaccines, and the supply of vaccines will be ensured in the first quarter of this year. The Prime Minister directed to expedite the process and ensure quick procurement of vaccines.
Addressing the meeting, PM Imran Khan said that the focus of government policies was on the poor and the working class. The government adopted a balanced strategy in view of the weaker and more vulnerable sections of society.
He termed his government’s strategy against the virus a success. “If the country had been completely locked down, it could have had dire consequences”, he added.
"As soon as the government took over, we had to make tough decisions regarding the economy. The people supported us and the data from the bureau of statistics is a testament to that," he said.
Imran Khan said that the NCOC model was very successful, enabling the implementation of an effective strategy. Pakistan was the first country in the world to think of the poor amid the pandemic while in India, poverty increased due to the lcokdowns.
