Sindh govt decides to set up emergency fund to buy covid vaccine
Sindh government will initially allocate Rs 1.5 billion for vaccine procurement this year.
KARACHI (Dunya News) – The Sindh government has on Tuesday decided to set up emergency fund to buy coronavirus vaccine and Rs 1.5 billion will be initially allocated for the procurement this year.
According to details, the Sindh government has contacted AstraZeneca, British manufacturer, and China’s Sinopharm to obtain the vaccine. It has been learnt that 175,000 frontline workers will be vaccinated in phase one in the province.
Sindh Health Minister Azra Pechuho said in her statement that the federal government is delaying to procure the vaccine. The Sindh government is making an online portal for persons above sixty, she added.
It is pertinent here to mention that Pakistan has reported 58 deaths in the last 24 hours by novel coronavirus as the number of positive cases has surged to 523,011. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 11,055.
According to the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) 1,800 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. Sindh remains the worst-hit province by the pandemic in terms of cases followed by Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
Till now 236,530 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 150,316 in Punjab 63,825 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 40,177 in Islamabad, 18,622 in Balochistan, 8,654 in Azad Kashmir and 4,887 in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Furthermore 4,460 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab 3,813 in Sindh, 1,791 in KP, 457 in Islamabad, 243 in Azad Kashmir, 190 in Balochistan, and 101 in GB.
Pakistan has so far conducted 7,442,084 coronavirus tests and 36,513 in the last 24 hours. 476,471 coronavirus patients have recovered in the country whereas 2,341 patients are in critical condition.
