PM wants to stop selling and purchasing of votes in the upper house of the Parliament: Dr Faisal

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Chairman of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting Faisal Javed Khan on Monday has said that holding transparent and fair Senate elections will be the victory of Pakistan.

Talking to media outside the Supreme Court (SC), the senator said that Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan wants to stop selling and purchasing of votes in the upper house of the Parliament.

Elimination of corruption from everywhere is the mission of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), he added.

The reaction came after Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, during hearing of presidential reference by SC, opposed holding Senate elections by open ballot.

During the hearing, the federal govenrment submitted written response while Sindh government was granted one more week to furnish its stand on the reference.

Attorney General Khalid Javed submitted written reply, stating that the presidential reference is related to the scope of Article 226 and the Supreme Court is bound to comment on the reference sent by the President.

The court can also comment on future legislation. The presidential reference is admissible under Article 186 of the constitution of Pakistan, he stated.
