President Alvi urges UN to provide right to self-determination to Kashmiris

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – President Dr Arif Alvi on Tuesday has urged the United Nations (UN) to honour its commitment of providing the right to self-determination to the people of Kashmir.
In a message on the Kashmiris’ Right to Self-Determination Day, the president said that Pakistan will continue its strong and steadfast support for Kashmiri people till realization of their inalienable right to self-determination in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.
Dr Arif Alvi said that global community cannot shy away from their responsibility in guaranteeing a free and fair plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir.
It is to be mentioned here that Kashmiri people inhibiting across both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) and rest of the world are observing the Right to Self-Determination Day today to remind the international community of the UN Security Council resolution on Jammu and Kashmir adopted on January 5, 1949, acknowledging their inherent right to self-determination.
The day is being observed every year by Jammu and Kashmir people to invite the attention of international community and the United Nations towards the early grant of right to self determination to Kashmir through implementation of the historic resolutions on Kashmir passed this day in 1949 by the Security Council of the UNO.
