Pakistan bans flights from UK in bid to control coronavirus spread

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The federal government has banned travelers from the UK from entering Pakistan in view of the ongoing second wave of coronavirus and reports of a mutated form of the virus spreading in the UK.

The ban will take effect on the night between December 22 and 23 and will remain in effect till December 29, but it could also be extended if the situation does not improve.

Passengers who are in transit and have not landed at the British airport will be allowed to come to Pakistan. Passengers with Pakistani passports will be allowed to enter the country after proving that they are not coronavirus positive.

Passengers with Pakistani passports must bring a coronavirus negative test report obtained 72 hours before the trip. These passengers will also be PCR tested at the airport.

Passengers will be officially quarantined until the result of the PCR test comes back negative. After testing negative, passengers will be put under mandatory quarantine for 7 days in their own homes.

Lastly, the passengers that arrived from the UK during the last seven days will also be tested. The decision to impose this ban was taken at a meeting of the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC).
