Lt Gen Akhtar Nawaz appointed as NDMA chairman
Lt Gen Akhtar Nawaz will replace Lt Gen Mohammad Afzal, who took charge as NDMA chairman in May 2019
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The government on Tuesday approved the appointment of Lieutenant General Akhtar Nawaz Satti as Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
The approval was given by Prime Minister Imran Khan, who presided over the cabinet meeting in Islamabad.
A summary containing three possible names for the new Chairman NDMA was sent to the federal cabinet. The recommended names included Lieutenant General Akhtar Nawaz, Capt (retd) Sher Alam Mehsud and Nadeem Irshad Kayani. Both Capt (retd) Sher Alam Mehsud and Nadeem Irshad Kayani are Grade 22 officers of Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS).
Lt Gen Akhtar Nawaz will replace the recently retired Lt Gen (retd) Muhammad Afzal, who took charge as the NDMA Chairman in May 2019 and played an important role in the country’s Covid-19 response as part of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).
Lt Gen (retd) Muhammad Afzal had a farewell meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan last week in which the PM praised his services to the country and wished him luck in future endeavors.
