Politics, non-implementation of coronavirus SOPs can make matters worse: FAFEN Report
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) has sounded the alarm right as the second wave of coronavirus is picking up intensity. FAFEN has released the first response monitoring report on Covid-19 in collaboration with Trust for Democratic Education and Accountability.
The report says that non-implementation of introduced coronavirus SOPs and politics could become a challenge for the country, adding that more serious and specific measures by the government are required to prevent it.
According to the FAFEN report, it is imperative that Pakistan develops the capacity of frontline workers and other stakeholders in fighting the disease. There is a fear of lack of coronavirus testing kits, quarantining capacity and a severe shortage of essentials such as ventilators.
The report also said that the opposition’s PDM movement has resulted in less legal oversight of the pandemic and more political action in the month of October, which could pose serious challenges to health governance at the policy and implementation levels.
