PM Imran's Afghanistan visit cost a fraction of previous premiers' visits

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Imran Khan has set a new example of austerity during his visit to Kabul on Thursday, which cost a mere $11,000 to the state exchequer.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Imran Khan paid a one-day visit to Afghanistan, along with his delegation, ushering in a new era of Pak-Afghan relations.

Compared to visits by previous leaders to the western neighboring country, this visit cost significantly less and set a new precedent.

The second most frugal visit to Afghanistan was by former President Asif Ali Zardari in 2009, which cost four times as much; $44,000.

Former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf’s visit to Afghanistan in 2012 cost the country $51,000 while the visit of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to Kabul in 2015 cost $58,000 to the treasury.
