Nawaz Sharif can be brought back to Pakistan: Farogh Naseem

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Federal Law Minister Farogh Naseem has expressed hope that Mian Nawaz Sharif can be brought back to Pakistan. Nawaz has no justification to put in front of UK courts as he has already been convicted by courts of Pakistan, Farogh said.

In an exclusive interview with Dunya News program "Dunya Kamran Khan Kay Saath", the barrister said Pakistan would approach the British government and its courts and ask for Nawaz Sharif’s extradition based on the decisions given by Pakistani courts, which the British courts have respect for.

The Law Minister said that Shehbaz Sharif is the guarantor in this case and Nawaz was allowed to leave Pakistan on the basis of Lahore High Court’s decision. Nawaz Sharif’s health is not serious enough to make travel difficult, he added.

Barrister Farogh Naseem said that Nawaz Sharif’s warrants were not received by him, adding that not receiving a court warrant falls into the category of contempt of court, which British Courts take very seriously.

He said that those who still consider Nawaz Sharif their party leader are also guilty of contempt of court as former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar had ruled that Nawaz Sharif can no longer lead his party.

Answering a question, he said that the Islamabad High Court’s displeasure with Nawaz Sharif was justified but along with the government, his departure from Pakistan had orders of Lahore and Islamabad High Courts behind it as well.

Farogh Naseem said that Nawaz Sharif’s medical reports were tampered with, giving the impression that the patient was breathing his last, but the ailing Nawaz Sharif went to London and promptly recovered.

The federal minister said that the case against Nawaz Sharif is not political in nature, the independent judiciary ruled against him when he was the country’s Prime Minister and he chose to appeal against it. The decision by the accountability court is also evidence against Nawaz on various accusations of corruption and money laundering.
