Areas of Karachi put under micro smart-lockdown following virus surge
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Following a sharp increase in cases of coronavirus reported in Karachi, the provincial government has decided to implement micro smart-lockdown in the city.
According to sources, coronavirus has been confirmed in 22 residents of a single UC in Karachi West while cases have also been reported from other areas including Manghopir.
Deputy Commissioner West has issued a notification regarding micro smart-lockdown, according to which, the lockdown will be applicable from midnight tonight and unauthorized people have been banned from entering UC-8, Manghopir.
The notification gives clear instructions to the citizens to wear masks while entering and leaving the locked down areas. Home deliveries have also be banned in the affected areas and only one person will be allowed out of the house.
Earlier, a meeting was chaired by Commissioner Karachi, in which he was briefed that restaurants and marriage halls violating SOPs will be closed.
Commissioner Karachi directed the management to keep the violating restaurants and marriage halls closed for at least three days and directed Deputy Commissioners to keep a check on all restaurants and marriage halls in their respective districts.
He also gave the direction that coronavirus testing in schools should be ramped up and any schools found violating SOPs should also be sealed.
The meeting decided that implementation of SOPs in parks would also be ensured, with no one being allowed to enter the park without a mask. All Deputy Commissioners have been directed to submit their progress report to the Commissioner by tonight.
