Motorway rape incident: Five relatives of prime suspect Abid arrested
Police arrested five relatives of Abid Ali during an operation in Kasur on Wednesday night.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – In a major breakthrough in the motorway gang-rape case, police arrested five relatives of prime suspect Abid Ali during an operation in Kasur on Wednesday night, Dunya News reported.
According to details, Lahore Police carried out an operation in Rao Khan Wala area of Kasur on a tip off that Abid Ali was present in the area during which five relatives of Abid were arrested.
Police sources said that prime suspect in motorway rape case Abid Ali had contacted these persons two days ago. Sources further said that the arrested persons would be brought to Lahore for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the prime suspect in motorway rape case Abil Ali is still at large on the ninth day of the incident (Thursday) as the Punjab Police have handed over the task of arresting him to the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).
The CTD has been involved in the case after the authorities failed in nabbing Abid Ali despite use of latest technology. The Criminal Investigation Agency (CIA) Police also remained unsuccessful. However, investigation is ongoing from arrested suspect Shafqat in jail.
Sources privy to the matter have informed that Abid Ali’s ID card has been blocked. The police have maintained that the step is taken in order to stop the accused from fleeing abroad.
On the other hand, statement of the affected woman has also not been recorded as yet and special team is formed in this regard which will contact the victim. The police have stated that the woman’s statement is legally very important in the case.
On September 9, 2020, a woman along with two children was reportedly travelling in a car from Lahore to Gujranwala when her car developed a fault on the motorway near Gujjarpura area of Lahore.
She was waiting for some help to arrive when two unidentified persons overpowered her. After raping and robbing the victim of valuables and cash (1 lakh), the suspects escaped from the scene.
