Seven killed in rain-related incidents across Punjab
The Met Office has predicted that intermittent monsoon rain will continue in Lahore till Sunday.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Seven persons including two children Friday lost their lives in rain-related incidents across Punjab as monsoon rains continued in the province. Low-lying areas were inundated and electricity supply was disrupted by the downpours.
LAHORE
Roof of a house collapsed near Saggian Bridge in Lahore killing four persons whereas it was feared that several others were trapped under the debris. Lahore commissioner told that rescue operation would soon be completed.
Over 45 feeders of the Lahore Electricity Supply Company (LESCO) tripped, cutting power supply and adding difficulties for people. Traffic flow remained disrupted in the areas where streets were flooded. The Met Office predicted that intermittent monsoon rain would continue in Lahore till Sunday.
ZAFARWAL
Streets turned into ponds after rain in Zafarwal and water entered houses. Locomotion became difficult as roads were inundated with several feet of rainwater. One student was electrocuted in the city.
WAZIRABAD
Torrential rain hit Wazirabad. Roof of a house collapsed in the city killing two children. A similar incident occurred at a clinic in Safdarabad but all individuals remained safe including doctor.
CHENAB RIVER
The water level in Chenab River in Chiniot reached 108,000 cusecs on second day also. The Flood Control Center issued high alert in the wake of possible flooding. Adjacent localities were directed to complete precautionary measures. Four flood relief camps had been made at different points.
CM USMAN BUZDAR
Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar ordered the authorities to take effective steps for prevention of urban flooding. The CM directed the administration to remain on high alert and monitor seasonal nullahs, drains and water channels 24 hours.
Usman Buzdar said, “Water and Sanitation Agencies (WASAs) and local bodies must take advance steps to combat the situation. Provision of all resources including equipments and machinery must be ensured. I will take strict action if streets and markets are inundated.”
