Smart lockdown imposed in 7 more areas of Lahore
Decision to impose smart lockdown was taken after 3,613 COVID-19 cases were reported in these areas.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Smart lockdown was imposed in seven more areas of Lahore at 12:00 midnight (night between Wednesday and Thursday) in the wake of preventing spread of coronavirus, Dunya News reported.
The areas which were sealed include Defence Housing Authority (DHA), Gulberg, Gulshan-e Ravi, Garden Town, Faisal Town, Model Town and Walled City.
According to sources, the decision to impose smart lockdown was taken after 3,613 cases of coronavirus reported in these areas.
All the entry and exit points of these areas were sealed by placing barriers and police officials were deployed to check the movement of the residents. Sources also informed that only the residents of these areas would be allowed to enter the locality.
Earlier, Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid said on Wednesday that strategies have been formulated to force the residents to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) prepared by the government against coronavirus.
Dr Yasmin Rashid also lauded doctors, nurses and the paramedical staff for serving on the frontline against the deadly disease.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Secretary Jawad Rafique Malik approved to seal 33 localities across the province including eight areas of Lahore.
It was decided to strictly implement SOPs to counter novel coronavirus. Jawad Rafique Malik stressed that action will be taken against the violators.
It is to be mentioned here that 96,229 houses and 1.69 million population will be put under lockdown in all blocks of Gulberg (I, II, III), DHA, Faisal Town, Garden Town and interior Lahore Walled City.
The commissioner office told that 3,613 covid-19 cases were reported in these localities.
Akbari Mandi, Shah Alam Market and grocery stores will remain open while all the shopping malls will be closed.
So far, 1403 cases were surfaced in DHA, 736 in Gulberg, 659 in Model Town, 188 in Faisal Town, 238 in Garden Town, 212 in Gulshan Ravi and 170 in Walled City.
