Punjab Govt to revoke condition of burying coronavirus victims in coffins

LAHORE (Dunya News) - According to sources, the loved ones of coronavirus victims will now be allowed to attend the last rites, funeral and burial of their relatives while the condition of burying the deceased in a coffin has also been revoked.

According to details, the government has decided to relax the SOPs on the issue of coronavirus victims’ burial and sent its recommendations to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) for approval.

The recommendations sent by the Punjab government say that currently, the bodies of the victims are kept in coffins, but from now on they would be covered with plastic instead.

In addition, family members and relatives will be able to carry their deceased to the cemetery as well as attend the funeral prayers. Protective clothing will be used for last rites of the body.

Under the new SOPs, touching the deceased will still not be allowed, however, they will be allowed to see the faces of their loved ones before burial.
