PM Imran directs Railways restructuring in view of ML-1 project
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed to restructure Pakistan Railways in context of ML-1 project and said that making the railways a profitable entity is the priority of the present government.
PM Imran Khan, while presiding over a review meeting on the progress of the reorganization of Pakistan Railways, said that arrangements should be made to deliver tickets to the passengers at their doorsteps.
The Secretary Railways apprised the Prime Minister about the reorganization, automation, digitization, asset management of Pakistan Railways and progress of ML-1 project.
The PM was also informed about involvement of private sector in railways and especially Public Sector Development Program.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister was told that in view of the current situation of coronavirus in the country, train hospitals have been introduced by the ministry and special attention has been paid to the implementation of SOPs in railway stations and trains across the country.
Imran Khan was informed that Pakistan Railways has paid special attention to the e-ticketing system for the convenience of the passengers, at present 60% booking is being done under the online system which not only facilitates the passengers but also helps in stopping corruption and embezzlement.
Regarding the involvement of the private sector in operating trains, PM was informed that at present two passenger trains and two freight train have been handed over to the private sector while 15 more passenger and two more freight trains will be run by the private sector.
