Record 2,818 accidents and 27 deaths reported in Punjab during Eid-ul-Fitr holidays
80% of the reported accidents were caused by motorcycles
LAHORE (Dunya News) - During the first two days of Eid, a record 2,818 traffic accidents took place in Punjab. 27 people were killed and 3,365 were injured in multiple vehicle collisions. According to DG Rescue 1122, 80% of the reported accidents were caused by motorcycles.
Director General Rescue 112 Dr Rizwan Naseer said that 2,818 accidents in the first two days of Eid-ul-Fitr are the most in the country’s history, out of which 80% were due to motorcycles.
Speaking exclusively to Dunya News’ program “Point of view”, Dr Rizwan said that 70% of motorcyclists do not even have a driving license. He also said that avoiding over speeding, following lane restrictions and using helmets can drastically reduce such accidents.
