Coronavirus deaths and cases have surged in Pakistan

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Pakistan on Monday has reported 176 deaths from novel coronavirus while the total number of cases has surged to 8418.

According to details, 3721 patients have been tested positive for the epidemic in Punjab, 2537 in Sindh, 1235 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 432 in Balochistan, 257 in Gilgit-Baltistan, 171 in Islamabad and 48 in Azad Kashmir.

So far, 1,970 patients have recovered in the country. 


Sindh govt decides not to use Tiger Force for relief campaign


Sindh government has decided not to include “Prime Minister’s Corona Tiger Force” in the relief campaign in the province.

Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Shaikh said that the distribution of ration bags has nothing to do with politics. "No worker of any political party including the PPP will be part of this relief operation," he said.

He said the distribution of ration bags in the province is being carried in a transparent and fair manner.

The provincial minister further said that all committees, NGOs and lady health workers are part of the relief operation.

He said that the workers of any political party cannot be made part of the relief operation, adding that no such instructions have been issued to the deputy commissioners.


US ambassador writes letter to Shehbaz, reassures support in fight against COVID-19


Ambassador of United States for Pakistan Paul W. Jones has penned down a letter to Opposition Leader of National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif and reiterated US’s support for Pakistan in fight against coronavirus.

In his letter, US ambassador said “US stands with Pakistan against coronavirus. Together we can stop the spread of this deadly disease to protect our loved ones and regain our prosperity and freedom.”

“After the United States declared Pakistan as a priority for emergency coronavirus assistance, the Pakistan-US health partnership started to train healthcare providers and procured emergency supplies worth $2 million”, the letter read.

The ambassador apprised Shehbaz Sharif about second chapter of US support worth $8.4 million.
