Illegal exchange of gold and foreign currency will be considered smuggling

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Law Ministry has forwarded the newly formulated anti-smuggling ordinance to Prime Minister Imran Khan.

According to the details, once the ordinance is approved, illegal trade of flour, sugar, potatoes, pulses, onions, livestock, vegetable oil will be considered as smuggling in the eye of the law. The illegal exchange of gold and foreign currency will also be considered smuggling.

According to the ordinance, the delivery of these goods through unannounced routes has been declared as smuggling. In addition to the Assistant Collector Officer and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), customs and intelligence agencies have also been given the authority to enforce the ordinance.

According to the ordinance, the secretary will be authorized to take legal action against any customs officer who does not take action on the complaint of the district administration. Moreover, smugglers could be arrested without warrants and whistleblowers who notify the authorities of such illegal acts will receive 10% of the confiscated goods’ worth.
