Coronavirus deaths and cases have surged in Pakistan

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Pakistan on Thursday has reported 128 deaths from novel coronavirus while the total number of cases has surged to 6919.

According to details, 3,291 patients have been tested positive for the epidemic in Punjab, 2008 in Sindh, 912 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 280 in Balochistan, 237 in Gilgit-Baltistan, 145 in Islamabad and 46 in Azad Kashmir.

So far, 1,645 patients have recovered in the country.  


Coronavirus fatality rate could increase in coming days: Dr Zafar


Special Assistant to Prime Minister for Health Dr Zafar Mirza has said that mortality rate of coronavirus cases could increase in Pakistan in coming days.

Addressing a press conference with Federal Minister for Planning Asad Umar, Dr Zafar Mirza said that Pakistan’s cases are less than those of other countries. 1,500 patients have recovered from the disease while 44 patients are on ventilator in various hospitals. So far 73,440 citizens have been tested for coronavirus in Pakistan, he added.

He said that relaxing lockdown for certain industries does not mean an end to precautionary measures. He added that all guidelines are available on the website and urged everyone to follow precautions especially owners of the businesses, who have more responsibility.


Lockdown extended to save lives of people: Sindh CM Murad


Chief Minister of Sindh (CM) Murad Ali Shah said that the provincial authorities have extended the lockdown to save the lives of people from deadly coroanvirus.

Addressing a press conference during his Sukkur visit, the CM said that cases have dropped due to low frequency of coronavirus tests. Food items for majority of ration bags were taken from utility stores, he told.
