3300 ventilators available in country's 136 hospitals, PM told
PM Imran said doctors and medical staff are acting as vanguard to stop spread of this killer disease
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday expressed the government s resolve to provide protective gear to health professionals on priority basis in their fight against corona pandemic.
He was chairing a high-level review meeting regarding situation after the outbreak of coronavirus in the country.
The meeting was attended by the federal ministers including Asad Umar, Khusro Bakhtiar, Hammad Azhar, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting, Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan, Special Assistant to PM on Health Dr Zafar Mirza, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Security Dr Moeed Yousuf, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) chairman Lieutenant General Muhammad Afzal and other senior officials.
During the meeting, NDMA chairman Lt Gen Muhammad Afzal and Special Assistant to PM on Health Dr Zafar Mirza briefed the prime minister on the latest situation of Coronavirus and arrangements regarding the care of Corona victims.
It was informed during the briefing that 3300 ventilators were available in 136 hospitals across the country, adding that the NDMA was in direct contact with the hospital administration to ensure timely delivery of safety kits for doctors and paramedics.
The prime minister was also informed that 49,500 protective kits have already been dispatched to various provincial hospitals and the delivery of more kits will be completed in next few days.
The NDMA chairman said that there was no shortage of safety kits and masks, adding that our goal is to ensure the availability of the required number of ventilators for which emergency measures are underway.
The participants were apprised that special attention was being given to enhance the capacity of Coronavirus testing on daily basis and in that respect steps were being taken on priority.
Besides, measures were also being taken to ensure the availability of technical staff and their training, it was further informed.
Minister for Planning Asad Umar briefed the meeting about the progress of development projects and the continuity of economic activities.
Speaking on the occasion, PM Imran Khan said that doctors and medical staff are acting as vanguard to stop the spread of this killer disease.
Imran Khan directed that benefits of already announced comprehensive package for the construction sector should reach lower strata of society, especially laborers.
The prime minister said funds of Public Sector Development Program should be spent on projects associated with small and medium industries.
