Shopping malls, recreational spots closed till March 24 in Punjab

LAHORE (Dunya News) – With coronavirus cases crossing 130 in Punjab, all the shopping malls and recreational spots are closed till March 24 to prevent people from gathering in large numbers.

The decision was taken in Cabinet Committee meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar in Lahore.

He said all shopping malls will remain closed from 9:00pm on Saturday till 9:00am on Tuesday. Meanwhile, he said medical stores, vegetable market, bakeries, milk shops and poultry shops will remain open.

The chief minister said there is no restriction on public transport as well. He said a committee headed by the finance minister is reviewing economic package.

CM Buzdar requested public to stay indoors during next two weeks and maintain social distancing to mitigate COVID-19 spread in the community.

A thousand-bed hospital will be set up in Lahore, while five hospitals were completely earmarked for coronavirus patients across the province, he told.

It is to be mentioned here that the coronavirus cases in Pakistan have surged to 629 as 292 patients have been tested positive for the epidemic in Sindh, 104 in Balochistan, 137 in Punjab, 31 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 55 in Gilgit-Baltistan, ten in Islamabad and one Azad Kashmir.
