Fifth coronavirus case confirmed in Karachi

A total of 135 tests have been conducted in Sindh up till now

KARACHI (Dunya News) – The Sindh health department confirmed on Monday evening that Karachi s fifth and Pakistan s eighth case of coronavirus has been detected.

The patient has been identified as a 53-year-old male from Karachi-East having a history of travel from Syria via Doha. The health department also stated that all his contacts have been quarantined.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah was informed during a Task force meeting that two out of three infected patients have stabilized.

According to details, the CM conducted a meeting of the coronavirus task force in which he was briefed about the current situation of the contagion in Sindh. He was told that the tests of five potential patients had returned negative and the eight cases reported yesterday also underwent testing. Moreover, tests of 19 more people are yet to be conducted and two out of three infected patients have seen their condition improve.

The meeting was informed that a total of 135 tests have been conducted in Sindh up till now, out of which four came back positive whereas one patient fully recovered.

CM Murad Ali Shah directed to issue an advisory to all government and private hospitals to report any suspected coronavirus case to the health ministry and screen International travelers landing in Karachi.

It was brought to light during the meeting that 3,630 people coming in from different countries have been screened up till now while 230 people from Iran have been put in preventive quarantine.
