Tezgam incident occurred due to short circuit, report exposes lies of railways officials.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Lies told by officials of the Pakistan Railways have been exposed by a report which states that the Tezgam incident occurred due to short circuit, not because of cylinder blast, Dunya News reported.
Deputy Divisional Superintendent and Divisional Commercial Officer Karachi of the Pakistan Railways have been held responsible for the tragedy while Railway Police SHOs from Hyderabad and Khanpur are found guilty of negligence.
It is pertinent to mention here that at least 75 passengers had lost their lives and over 40 sustained critical burn wounds when three carriages of a Tezgam Express caught fire near Talwari Station in Liaquatpur area of Rahim Yar Khan. The train was bound from Karachi to Rawalpindi.
Television footage showed flames pouring out of the carriages as people could be heard crying in the incident. Many commuters died and several were injured when they jumped from the moving train to escape the flames.
Afterwards, the railways officials had claimed that the fire erupted due to explosion in gas canisters purportedly used by Tableeghi Jamaat passengers to cook breakfast.
