LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has decided to constitute an inquiry committee to find out the culprits responsible for the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) rampage on Wednesday that claimed lives of three patients, and injured several others.

Sources familiar with the matter told the media that the committee would identify the roles of lawyers, doctors and police in the violent clash.

Furthermore, the findings by the inquiry committee in a form of a report will be made a part of measures which will be devised and implemented to prevent occurrence of such incidents in the future.

A notification will soon be issued after finalising the names of the members of the inquiry committee.

On the other hand, a special antiterrorism court (ATC) in Lahore issued a show cause notice to the investigating officer, Shadman Station House Officer (SHO) and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) for not presenting record in the case, and adjourned the hearing till Dec. 16.

The court heard a bail petition for the release of arrested lawyers in the same case.

Advocate Nadeem Sarwar filed a petition in the Lahore High Court against police raids on lawyers’ homes for their arrest.

Punjab Inspector General (IG) Shoaib Dastgir, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Zulfiqar Hameed and Pemra were made respondents in the application.

The application pleaded with the court to issue directives for the protection of lawyers and halt police from arresting them.

Importantly, a lady doctor, namely Fiza, through CCTV footage, has identified lawyers who had allegedly tortured her during the clash and recorded her statement to the police.

Meanwhile, owners of the cars which were damaged during the rampage received cheques from the government of Punjab and were distributed by the medical superintendent of the PIC.

According to details, Rs50,000 has been given for reparation of cars with 800cc engines, Rs75,000 for 1,000cc cars, Rs150,000 for 1,300cc cars and Rs200,000 for 1,600cc cars.

The hospital administration had directed owners to submit their identity cards and the pictures of the damaged cars.  Doctors and other staff appreciated government’s move to assist the owners for reparation of their cars.
