LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab Minister for Information Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chouhan on Wednesday claimed that the lawyers attack on Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) was a conspiracy and elements from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) involved in the incident.

Addressing a press conference flanked by Punjab Law Minister Raja Basharat and Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmeen Rashid, he said that a video of a lawyer goes viral who has links with PML-N’s Hamza Shahbaz and Maryam Nawaz, while more revelations were coming out which will soon be revealed to the media.

Chohan further claimed that a known PML-N activist was present among those lawyers who attacked him, adding that the mentioned political worker can be spotted in several photos with Maryam Nawaz and Hamza Shehbaz.

He also claimed that shots were fired at him but almighty Allah took him out of this situation. "My life was at stake. They tortured me and even fired shots at me and tried to kidnap me," he said.

The minister while paying tribute to the media for "playing a very positive role" said that some of the media men got me out of there.

Chauchan went on to say that he was instructed by Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar to visit the under-attack hospital and play a mediating role between the two sides.

Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Law Minister Raja Basharat said that Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chauhan and Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmeen Rashid were looking into incident from provincial government, adding that the damage would have been much worse if the situation weren’t handled.

The minister said that the lawyers should realise their mistake. He also appealed the doctors to keep emergencies of the hospitals open as it wasn’t a mistake of the patients.

Raja Basharat went on to say that the chief minister has made it clear that no concession would be given to those involved in the incident. The minister condemned the mistreatment of Chauhan and Rashid as they tried to defuse the situation at the protest venue.
