FM Qureshi arrives in Geneva to highlight HR situation in IOJ&K at session of UN Human Rights Council
Qureshi will address the session and present the case of Kashmiris.
GENEVA (Web Desk) - Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has arrived in Switzerland on a three-day visit to represent Pakistan at the 42nd session of UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Talking to media in the Swiss city, he said the meeting of UN Human Rights Council starts today (Monday).
Shah Mahmood Qureshi dubbed the statement of High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet on Occupied Kashmir encouraging in which she demanded the lifting of curfew, opening of communication system and rehabilitation of basic human rights of Kashmiris.
Foreign Minister said he will use his stay in Geneva to apprise the international community of the critical situation in Occupied Kashmir.
He will also address the session and present the case of Kashmiris before the delegates attending the forum from across the world.
Shah Mahmood Qureshi will raise the Indian unilateral and illegal actions in occupied Kashmir and will highlight threat posed to the region as a result of these actions.
The Foreign Minister will also hold meetings with leaders of OIC and WHO in Geneva.
He will interact with local and international media resprestatives in Geneva and present Pakistan s stance and point of view on various regional and international issues.
Earlier, Foreign Minister was received by the Special Envoy of the Prime Minister Ambassador Tehmina Janjua, Ambassador of Pakistan to Germany, Ahmad Warraich, Acting Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations and other International Organizations Tahir Hussain Andrabi and officers of the mission.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said Pakistan will speak definitively at the United Nations Human Rights Council Session in Geneva on the continued Indian atrocities in Indian Occupied Kashmir.
In a tweet, he quoted UNHRC High Commissioner Michelle Bachelet as saying that the people of Kashmir must be consulted and engaged in any decision-making processes.
The Foreign Minister said for the last thirty six days, Indian Occupied Kashmir is under complete military lockdown and blackout, complete denial of human rights, including restrictions on communications, mobility, peaceful assembly as well as the detention of local political leaders and activists.
Separately, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi sayid Indian barbarity and tyranny in the held valley is gradually getting exposed before the world.
In his video message, he said the session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva today (Monday) discussed the security clampdown, restoration of basic rights and lifting the curfew in the Occupied Kashmir and it also demanded to terminate communications blackout there.
The Foreign Minister also welcomed the statement by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights with regard to Occupied Kashmir saying it is very encouraging.
