ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Friday thanked the permanent and non-permanent member countries of the United Nations for accepting Kashmir an international dispute.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Friday, he said that India tried to create hurdles in the UN Security Council meeting, adding that today’s UNSC meeting proved Kashmir is internationally recognised dispute.
The minister said that it is a historic moment that the world s highest forum has specifically discussed the Kashmir issue and the prevailing grim human rights situation in occupied Kashmir, adding that it is rare for the Security Council to discuss Kashmir, which has been divided between India and Pakistan since independence from Britain in 1947.
He said the UNSC session is testimony to the fact that the international community is fully vigilant over the human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir, adding that more steps will be taken keeping in view today’s historic success.
Qureshi went on to say that a consultative meeting has been convened at Foreign Office in Islamabad tomorrow to discuss further building blocks after this session.
He said representatives of different national institutions will participate in the meeting.
Expressing concern over imposition of curfew in held Kashmir for 12th consecutive day by India, Qureshi said the ground situation in valley would be depicted clearly when the curfew was lifted there.
He asked India to lift curfew and give access to human rights observers and international media to the occupied Jammu and Kashmir watch the situation with their own eyes.
To a question, Qureshi asked whether anyone expect him to talk to his Indian counterpart when they are martyring innocent Kashmiris in the occupied Valley. He said he would contact his Indian counterpart until they lift curfew and stop violence, adding that they are murderers, occupants.
“No one has shown such restraint, the way Pakistan has shown,” he said and added no one should expect us to contact them.
He said Pakistan wanted talks with India but it was the latter which had always turned down the offers and suppressed voice of the people of occupied Kashmir. However, despite suppression the Kashmiris were raising their voice for their right of self-determination.
Qureshi said India knew what Kashmiris wanted, and reiterated Pakistan s moral, political and diplomatic support to the people of Kashmir.
He said the struggle of the Kashmiris had now taken a centre stage and the time had come that this issue should be resolved with peaceful means and according to the UN resolutions.
