Neelum Valley floods: Pak Army rescues 52 stranded people

Pakistan Army has established relief camps with relief efforts.

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Pakistan Army on Monday airlifted at least 52 stranded individuals to safer places after heavy rains and flash floods wreaked havoc in Neelum Valley.

In a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), army troops are assisting civil administration for rescue and relief of affected population due to Land Slide near Laswa village and flash flood in Neelum Jhelum River at Nauseri, Danni.

The Pakistan Army has established relief camps with relief efforts, including provision of food, rations and medical care, continued into the evening.

Earlier, at least 20 people had been killed while several others went missing in flash flood caused by torrential rains in Neelum Valley.

State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) stated that the flood has destroyed several houses, shops and mosques whereas the locals have been directed to move to safe places.

The communication system and internet services have also been suspended in the valley. Meanwhile, district administration launched an operation to rescue the victims from the affected area.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), rain-thundershower (with isolated heavy falls) accompanied by gusty winds is expected at scattered places in Kashmir, Islamabad, Hazara, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Lahore divisions, while at isolated places in Malakand, Peshawar, Kohat, Mardan, Bannu, Zhob, D.G.Khan and Sahiwal divisions.

Hot and humid weather is expected elsewhere in the country.
